Write English contracts and translate legal documents from Japanese into English at a professional level |

Course Objective (Goal) |
Obtain reading and comprehension skills of various types of complex and lengthy Japanese written contracts and be able to translate it into English. Students will also have writing skills to produce English written contracts at the same level and length. |
Learning Outcome |
Translate accurately and comprehensively Japanese complex, high level, and lengthy (more than 15 pages) contracts drafted in professional law firms or corporate law departments into English by understanding and becoming familiar with legal terminology, word and idiom usage, writing style, grammar, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics of such complex, high level, and lengthy contracts written in both English and Japanese. Translate at a speed of 250 words per hour (source language). |

Exercise Workbook
Includes 16 types of Japanese contracts, regulations, laws, treaties, arbitration decisions, legal papers, and corresponding Japanese translation examples from ‘Long Term Sales & Purchase Agreement' to 'Alien Registration in Japan'. One contract is 20 pages on average with one exercise per lecture.
